The Casa Rosada is a palace located in front of the Plaza de Mayo that serves as the seat of the National Government. This imposing pink-colored building occupies the site where the Fort of Buenos Aires was erected in 1580.

Although there are several suggestions, according to tradition, this color is due to President Sarmiento’s desire to symbolically represent the fusion of the parties that led the bloody civil wars of the first half of the 19th century, with the mixture of the white supposedly used by the Unitarians and the red of the Federals.

It took several architects and many decades from the foundation of BUenos Aires to get to the actual design. The original fort, the customs office and the mail service , which were both added later, were finally joined together .

The last two parts are of a different size and different architectural size. That means that the entrance to he palace is not in the center of the building, which gives it a unique look. We do things differently in Argentina…
Also, the president does not live there, he just comes to work every day, monday to friday. His residence is in the nortern suburbs
