On Av. Donato Alvarez and Bacacay, there is a property that was closed for a long time: the Patio de los Lecheros. To the front, very high, an inscription is read: “FCO Caballito, Entrance to the milk service”. In this little corner of history, a project arises that brings the neighbors closer to a previously abandoned place so they can enjoy and inhabit it.

The Patio de los Lecheros was the train station near Caballito, where the milk from the interior fields arrived. The milkmen, mostly immigrants, gathered in this courtyard (hence the name) and waited for the milk they would later sell. When the sale of unpasteurized milk was banned in 1961, the site fell into disuse.

However, in 2016 it was intended to rehabilitate it. For this, outdoor wooden benches, food trucks, an urban garden, a mini-market and a projection screen were located. The proposal sought to continue helping to position Buenos Aires as the gastronomic capital of the region and, on the other hand, to give the neighbors a place that united fun and usefulness. The Patio operates on weekends and attracts a lot of people, both for food and cultural options, since cinema cycles are usually done.

Spent a nice sunday at “Patio de los lecheros”. Great atmosphere. A tipical portenio place, untouristic . Lots of food. So Far awy from the tourist track !

The atmosphere that is created is particularly special, due to the presence of brick walls, light wood paneling, the tracks and the sound of the train that passes right by our side at intervals. The atmosphere is pleasant and the amount of people is fair. We will not do endless queues, nor will it cost us so much to find a table. It is a meeting place to go to eat, laugh and drink.

The Patio de los Lecheros is an atypical place, where past and present come together. Do not miss knowing him or enjoying his gastronomy. The cultural proposals are variable during the year, it is only necessary to look at the page of the City Government. You can also visit The Oldest or El Fermentador brewery in the area. Each one is from a different side of Caballito, a neighborhood divided by the railroad.
