It is the classical tour to visit the Perito Moreno Glacier without physical demands and with plenty of time to explore the National Park’s walkways and balconies.
The guided tour departs from your hotel in El Calafate and, after a journey of 80km through a succession of lakes, streams, forests and snowy mountains we arrive at the west end of the Magellan’s Peninsula, where the walkways complex and visitor’s area is located. Show More Safari Nautico : Boat ride in front of the south wall of the Perito Moreno Glacier. Age Restrictions: All ages allowed. Physical difficulty: None Duration: Approximately 1 hour (departing from Bajo Las Sombras port) The tour consists of a boat ride on the Rico Lake where your will be able to appreciate the amazing ice wall of the Perito Moreno Glacier and its icebergs from up close. The ride gives you the opportunity of seeing the spectacular ice walls of the Perito Moreno Glacier from a different perspective and hear its continuous and thunderous ice collapses over the Lago Rico. Right in front of the wall of the glacier, the boat stops and drifts for a few minutes to take a closer look of the ice and the surrounding landscape. Boarding takes place at Bajo las Sombras port, located just 6km away from the glacier. For more details, please Contact us Show Less
The walkways are arranged in several levels that allow you to see the glacier from different angles and balconies. Plenty of time will be granted to walk through the walkways and appreciate the Perito Moreno Glacier upfront. According to your fitness level, you will be able to reach the lowest balcony, which is the nearest to the glacier, or only get to the first balcony which is easily accessible for everyone and from where you have a spectacular view. An elevator is currently operating to facilitate access to the first balcony to people with reduced mobility.
Age Restrictions: All ages allowed.
Physical difficulty: Low
Duration: Half day
Departing from El Calafate (8:30 a.m or 4:30 p.m) along the gravel road of the Provincial Route 15, also know as “the road to the estancias”. Along the way it is common to come across condors, foxes and hares, with Cerro Frías taking centre stage. After crossing over the Río Rico, the landscape changes suddenly from the steppe-land to mountain scenery. The estancia is reached after travelling along the edge of Lago Roca and having entered Los Glaciares National Park.
The host guide welcomes you to the Estancia and takes you to the Quincho [rustic dining room] where you will be invited to have a hot drink (tea, coffee or mate) accompanied by home-made cakes and pastries. A good moment to pause and enjoy a magnificent view of the Andes .
The walk starts around the main building, the perfect example of a typical Patagonian estancia which was formerly devoted to sheep rearing and nowadays has become the most prestigious Hereford breeding ranch of these latitudes, while still retaining a small herd of sheep.
At the stables, those who have chosen the extra will do some horse riding to explore the surroundings accompanied by a guide.
Meanwhile the rest of the group will tke a walk and admire the excellent views of the Southern Arm of Lago Argentino. The footpaths lead through native woodland of lenga and ñire, a habitat for caranchos, Austral parakeets, hares, woodpeckers and eagles.
You wil then meet again at the door of the shearing shed. This is a chance to see skilled hands at work.
You can also participate in milking cows, herding sheep or or see a demonstration of horse handling skills. These activities are subject to the weather conditions.
When you return to the Quincho where a whole lamb is being roasted on a vertical stake in traditional Patagonian fashion, some history of the region will be explained, with anecdotes and stories from the early settlers.
(*)Optional horseriding
EL CHALTEN
The experience of travelling Patagonian lakes and rivers will enrich your visit to this area. The kayak was thought for people with good fitness but not necessarily with previous experience in rowing. We have designed programs for both: beginners and experienced kayakers can enjoy this program. De las Vueltas River originates in Desierto Lake and descends into Lake Viedma making numerous turns through Lenga forests and vertical walls, transporting water from melting glaciers from the heights of Mount Fitz Roy.
The activity starts inside Laguna Condor Mountain Hut and ends at the begginnig of El Chaltén . From our privileged position in the kayak and over 12,42 miles we can enjoy the best views of Fitz Roy Massif and its needles, from a completely different view point: kayaking a river and not inside a mountain trail.
– Daily departure: from 11am to 5:30 pm
– Minimum age: 14 years, accompanied by a parent.
Includes:
Not included:
Note: an additional pair of shoes is recommended to be used with the neoprene socks
The program begins in El Chaltén , where we find different routes to start our climbing activity. The guide begins with an introductory talk about climbing in the area and presentation of the technical gear.
Rock climbing can be done every day at 10 am or 12 pm.
The circuit differs in different areas depending on their characteristics:
–ZONE 1: 4 kilometers of calm and meandering waters with views of Fitz Roy. Ideal for making contact with the raft, river and practice paddling techniques needed for what comes next.
– ZONE 2: Rafting over the canyon area. After a quick welcome, we find , for 8kms, a series of fun and exciting rapids with ups and downs in the purest waters which makes for an intense tour to enjoy.
– FINAL STAGE: A final rush for 2 km ending in the calm waters of the de las Vueltas River.
Daily departures at 10 am in/or 3 pm.
Lago del desierto is one of the most and last virgin areas in the Patagonian Andes. Exploring the 36km between the lake and the town of El Chaltén is an unforgettable experience.
We leave town early in the morning, making our way towards the beautiful lake with its crystal-clear water. Once there you can do a boat trip or go trekking in the surrounding area up to the wonderful Huemul Glacier and its turquoise colored lake.
You have the whole day to make the ride back, going downhill and with WIND FROM BEHIND!! which allows you to follow the rapid water of ¨Río de las Vueltas¨.
Each curve is an excuse to stop and admire the beauty of the surroundings: waterfall, lakes, glaciers and the huge shape of the Fitz Roy´s north face, emerging from the nothofagus woods.
Several trails invite you to leave your bike for a while and make different hiking trips:
For those who don’t want to do the whole 36km biking trip to town, we offer the option to finish the ride at Hosteria El Pilar (12.42 miles from del Desierto Lake) where we will pick you up in the afternoon.
Mountain Bikes:
This program has daily departures at 8.30 hs, with pick up from the hotel by mini bus.
